Africa’s longest serving leader and the world’s longest-serving president Equatorial Guinea’s President Teodoro Obiang’ Nguema has named his son Teodoro ‘Teodorin’ Obiang’ Mangue as the country’s vice-president.
The president promoted his son, Teodoro “Teodorin” from “second vice president” to vice president. Teodorin, who seems to be the anointed one to take over the presidency has in the past served as cabinet minister and he will also head the Defence and National Security ministry.
The appointment has been criticised and seen by some as an undemocratic step designed to protect and consolidate power by keeping it in the family.
