The youth league chair of the opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) has alleged that the son of the Defense Minister, Brownie Samukai, Michael Samukai who Zirdee Andrews has escaped justice.

It can be recalled that the family of the late D. Jarpee Andrew, a former Representative of River Gee County accused Michael Samukai for shooting one of their brothers.

Following the family accusation, Defense Minister, Samukai openly apologized to the victim’s family and called on the law to take its course but since then, there have been no further updates on the matter.

Addressing a news conference Tuesday at the party’s headquarters in Congo Town outside Monrovia, the party’s youth league chair, Jefferson Koijee, alleged that Michael Samukai has fled the country to Ghana after he was charged for attempted murder.

Koijee, who could not provide the date, time and flight number of Michael Samukai, said he believes that the alleged culprit should have been placed behind bars and awaiting court trial, but to the contrary he has left the country.  »

When your son supposed to be behind bars and information under our domain clearly states that this young man has escaped the country, then, it is unfortunate, » Koejee told journalists at the news conference.

The CDC youth chairman has challenged the Defense Minister to prove him (Koijee) wrong, noting that he stands ready and prepared to provide to the public with every piece of information surrounding his allegation. At the same time, Koijee alleged that four « zogos » (criminals) have died and were buried by the police while in custody following recent campaign to get rid of people loitering in the streets.  »

We have been informed that a good number of our vulnerable youth whom we referred to as zogos in the custody of police are currently sick. Even more disturbing news now in our possession suggests that four of those young people are now dead and are being surreptitiously buried without any involvement of their families, » Koijee claimed.

He noted that the party looks forward to being informed within the shortest possible time by the police in regards to the total number of persons in police custody, health conditions, and plans on for the way forward and many others.
