Juba (dpa) – Gunmen opened fire on a crowd watching a football match on television in the South Sudanese capital Juba, killing 11 people, police said Monday.
The victims were watching the English Premier League match in a hall with a television screen in the western suburb of Gudelle Saturday night, when the attackers entered, police spokesman Justin Boula said.
They fired indiscriminately for about 10 minutes. Eleven people were killed and more than 10 others were injured.
Police were hunting for the suspects, whose motives were not known.
The attack was the first against football fans in South Sudan, which has seen other types of violence against civilians, including ethnic massacres, since a military conflict erupted between President Salva Kiir and his former deputy Riek Machar in December 2013.
