A member of the Senate Committee on Niger Delta, Senator Rilwan Adesoji Akanbi, has appealed to the Niger Delta militants to come out of their shells and have a round table parley with the federal government with a view to resolving their grievances.

Senator Akanbi, who is representing Oyo South Senatorial District, made the appeal in Ibadan over the weekend while delivering a lecture entitled ‘Nigeria and the Quest for Credible Leadership” under the auspices of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State council.

The lawmaker expressed concern that Nigeria’s economy had been bleeding following the incessant bombing of the petroleum oil pipelines by the Niger Delta militants.

He said it was high time the aggrieved militants had mercy on Nigeria and stopped the bombings.

On the theme of the lecture, the vice chairman, Senate Committee on Solid Minerals, decried the level of corruption, inflation and poverty in Nigeria and called for the strengthening of the nation’s institutions.
